Ratan Tata, the 86-year-old veteran industrialist and Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus, is reportedly in critical condition at a Mumbai hospital, according to Reuters, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the matter.
This alarming development comes just two days after Tata himself had assured the public about his health. On October 7, he took to social media to dismiss health concerns as ‘rumours’, stating:
“I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age related medical conditions. There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits.”
He further requested the public and media to refrain from “spreading misinformation”.
However, the latest reports suggest a potentially more serious situation. Sources claim that Tata was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital in the early hours of Monday following a drop in blood pressure.
In his recent social media post, Tata had emphasized, “I am aware of recent rumours circulating regarding my health and I want to assure everyone that these claims are unfounded.”
Ratan Tata’s Legacy: Tata’s impact on Indian industry is immeasurable. He led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012, overseeing its transformation into a global powerhouse. Under his leadership, the group’s revenues skyrocketed from ₹10,000 crore in 1991 to USD 100.09 billion in 2011-12.
His tenure saw landmark acquisitions, including Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover, establishing Tata as a formidable international player.
As the situation develops, the business world and admirers alike anxiously await further updates on the health of this iconic figure in Indian industry.
